Hyde Park on Hudson takes place in June 1939, when President Roosevelt (Murray) and his wife Eleanor (Murray’s Rushmore co-star Olivia Williams) invited Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and King George VI (Samuel West)–whose rise to the thrown was documented in the Oscar-winning The King’s Speech–to visit his country home. Amid the culture clash of these proper Brits and the casual Americans, discussions brewed of a potential alliance against Germany, and Roosevelt’s blossoming romance with Margaret Suckley (Laura Linney), who was not only his mistress but also his distant cousin, blossomed.
