Take a Shower and Get a Lung Disease
Good thing I don’t shower! haha hehe
Some recent studies have shown:
“potentially disease-causing germs can get trapped in showerheads and grow into biofilm, or coats of slime that deliver a bacteria blast along with your hot water.”
Mycobacterium avium, found in 20 percent of study samples, can cause lung infections in both healthy people and those with weakened immune systems, particularly smokers, alcoholics, people with chronic lung disease, and others with conditions that make it difficult to fight off infection. Symptoms include fatigue, a chronic dry cough, and shortness of breath.
So what can you do to prevent this? Clean it? NOPE
Disinfecting the showerhead might make things worse, the researchers found. They tried cleaning one showerhead with bleach and found that it carried even more mycobacteria after the cleaning than before. “Mycobacteria are known to be very chlorine resistant,” Feazel said. “By using bleach, we probably killed everything else.” - Jessica Marshall for news.discovery.com
Kinda creepy right?! I get it that science has become so advanced that more lives are saved but it sure does take the fun out of things sometimes. We are starting to figure out what can kill you and it turns out…everything!
