I miss the old days of movie making. Sure, it’s great that directors can realize their visions of distant worlds and crazy landscapes with the help of CGI. However, there is something to be said about old-fashioned hands-on special effects. CGI blood is the biggest offender for me. Does it really cost that much for some squibs and blood bags? Tom Savini was the master of horror special effects. The shotgun scene in Maniac was a work of art.
Anyway, Terminator 2 was one of the pioneers of computer graphics in movies. Given how rapidly technology changes, the fact that you can watch a movie that is now over 20 years old and have it still look as good as it does is truly a testament to how well done the computer effects were. What you may be surprised to learn is how much of the work was done with costumes, makeup, and animatronics. This video will give you a bit of an insight into how much hard work went into making, in my opinion, the greatest sequel of all time.
